Chihuahua or Yorkshire: which breed to choose?

Chihuahua and Yorkshire are two successful breeds of dogs. Very appreciated, they are both small in size and therefore attract all masters who want a small size.

If you are looking to acquire one of these two dogs and you don’t know which one to choose, this article is what you need.

We introduce you to each of these two breeds of dogs and help you make a choice.

Learn more about the Chihuahua

It is a dog of Mexican origin very affectionate and easy to maintain. It is the smallest dog in the world and it is therefore naturally its size that attracts first. S

he body is compact, only 16 to 20 cm long and weighs between 0.5 and 3 kg. He is playful, kind to children, calm, easy to train and intelligent.

We recommend a Chihuahua if you travel a lot because he is docile, has a robust health, is clean and especially because he tolerates solitude and is suitable for guarding.

The Chihuahua has a shiny and soft coat. There are two varieties: one short-haired and one long-haired. The Chihuahua can have different colors, including chocolate, brown, fawn, white, cream, tan black and silver fawn. This breed of dogs has an apple-shaped head, large erect ears set wide apart, with a small muzzle. Its eyes are of lively expression in addition to being large and slightly protruding.

It is a dog with a strong character, despite its small size. If he often gets along well with all humans, he sometimes wants to be the dominant of the household and can be stubborn during the first months. Your training must therefore be firm. Of course, if physical punishment is never a good idea with a dog, it becomes even more useless with a pocket size dog like the Chihuhua.

He can live up to 20 years, but can get sick if not well guarded. He will therefore need to be well groomed.

The chihuahua costs between 1 200 dollars and 3 000 dollars depending on its age, sex, variety. You must also plan a small budget for grooming.

Learn more about the Yorkshire

He is affectionate and demonstrative with the people he knows. He is also a great player, calm and intelligent. He is independent and tolerates solitude.

The Yorkshire can be stubborn because he is full of energy and very curious. You will have to set limits on him soon. Its grooming is demanding because its hair grows up to 2 cm per month.

The price of a Yorkshire is lower than that of a Chihuahua and his life expectancy is between 12 and 17 years. Its monthly maintenance can be around 30 dollars.

Points of similarities and differences between the chihuahua and the yorkshire

Yorkshire and Chihuahua are both very loyal and very endearing. They are almost the same size and have similar characteristics: close life expectancy, endurance, good health, etc.

Nevertheless, the Chihuahua seems more affectionate with its fetish master, calmer, easy to maintain and likes to travel more. However, he does not tolerate solitude well and if you adopt one while spending 12 hours a day outside the house, he will not be happy. In addition, the Chihuahua is less playful than the Yorkshire and likes physical activity less.

The Yorkshire, on the other hand, is more independent and more playful. If you like non difficult walks, he will be able to accompany you for several kilometers by moving his tail thanks to the joy that animates him.

He requires more care because he has no underfurrowing and tends to have eye and ear infections.
